The Barbados House of Assembly has approved legislation paving the way for the island to formally end its relationship with the British Privy Council.
The legislation effectively makes the Caribbean Court of Justice the final court of appeal for Barbados.
The government said the formal break could take place as early as next month.
Barbados is the second English-speaking Caribbean country after Guyana to ditch the Privy Council. Guyana did so when it became a republic in 1970.
