The ruling Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) in Guyana has expressed dismay at the negative reactions by the country's foreign partners and local groups, to the reinstatement of Home Affairs Minister Ronald Gajraj.
Heavy criticism has followed the Governments reinstatement of Gajraj, but the PPP said that it was hard to avoid the feeling that "extraneous considerations are being introduced in the matter.
The Minister was cleared by a commission of inquiry of allegations that linked him to extra-judicial killings.
However, the US, EU and Canadian Governments all indicated their disappointment with the decision to reinstate him after the commission cited him for acts of ministerial impropriety, including his unwarranted association with a suspected killer and undue interference in the gun licensing process.
