Approximately 800 people won the DV-2005, green card lottery in the Caribbean and can now file an immigrant visa application. Cuba took the lions share with 674 winners. The dept. received over 9.5 million entries worldwide for the DV-2005 lottery between November 1st 2003 to December 30th, 2003. Winners were selected at random, spread out among six geographic regions. In order for DV lottery winners to gain an immigrant visa to the US, they must provide evidence of a high school degree or show two years of work experience in a job that requires at least two years of training or experience. Winners must successfully obtain their immigrant visas to the US by September 30, 2005 or they will lose their DV status and would have to apply again for next year's lottery.
