Barbados booming construction industry is creating such a great demand for concrete blocks that it is far outstripping supply.
Block manufacturers are reporting they now have waiting lists.
The shortage has resulted from the high volume of construction work, plant breakdowns, and emergency orders to create the temporary prisons after the fire at Glendairy.
Roybar Technologies, one of the smaller producers, usually makes 3 000 eight-inch blocks per day. The company said even if it was able to double this, current demand would still not be met.
