CARICOM Chairman, Dr Ronald Venetiaan, has expressed deep concern and alarm at reported violence, looting and deliberate acts of sabotage affecting the people of Belize.
More than a week ago, workers at Belize's Telecommunications Limited (TL) began protests, which shut down the country's telephone and Internet services for several days. The TL workers, supported by their trade union, are seeking to have the government sell or grant them a 37.5 per cent stake in the company.
The CARICOM Chairman called on all Belizeans to respect the rule of law, abide by the Constitution of Belize and engage in a process of dialogue.
