On July 7, Suriname will become the first CARICOM member state to issue a common regional passport. Five other countries are expected to follow suit by the end of this year.
CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Edwin Carrington explained that the passports will still bear the names of the individual states, but would include the words Caribbean Community on them.
With the CARICOM Single Market and Economy there will be free movement for certain categories of people such as sportspersons, media workers, musicians and university graduates.
