From all reports, last weeks General elections in the Cayman Islands, ran smoothly with no reports of violence or other problems at the 34 polling stations in six districts across the islands.
But the islands politics changed overnight when the results of the poll were finalized. The Peoples Progressive Movement (PPM) won over the rival United Democratic Party (UDP).
The PPM, led by Mr. Kurt Tibbetts, gained a majority nine seats out of 15 in the Legislative Assembly. Five sent to the UDP and one independent.
The Legislative Assembly was to resume on May 18 for the swearing in of the legislative members.
