BRITISH NAVY SHIP HMS Liverpool has seized a substantial amount of marijuana and cocaine as it continues its tour of the Caribbean. The value of drugs seized or destroyed is estimated at over 2.5 million pounds sterling. Lieutenant commander Bruce Finch, the logistics and public relations officer of the vessel, said drug interdiction was only a portion of the functions included in the vessels orders. Orders include charity work and hurricane relief.
The vessel carries 250 crew members and 30 officers. It has been working with the French, Dutch and the Regional Security System (RSS). The vessel has planned stops in Trinidad and Jamaica before its return to Britain in August.
