Strict rules for phone taps

Monday, June 13, 2005

Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson has announced the government will introduce new anti-crime legislation that includes the use of recordings from telephone tapping in court.
Mr Patterson said legislation to allow evidence in court, gained by covert surveillance will allow the police to take advantage of the advances in telephone technology.
But Delroy Chuck the opposition Jamaica Labour Party's spokesman on Justice said his party can only back this legislation if strict protocols are outlined for the use of telephone tapping.
Superintendent Carlton Wilson, a senior officer in the Narcotics Squad stressed phone tapping will be a boost in the fight against drug dealers and he feels the rules governing phone taps will be quite strict.
Mr Chuck said corruption is the cause of much of the crime that is taking place in Jamaica.
He believes legislation should be introduced to protect public officials who wanted to expose such practices.

MUST NOT be any form of double standard
Prime Minister P. J. Patterson has a solid point in introduce new anti-crime legislation that includes the use of recordings from telephone tapping in court. Mr. Delroy Chuck the opposition Jamaica Labour Party's spokesman on Justice says his party will only back this legislation if strict protocols are outlined for the use of telephone tapping. He believes legislation must be introduced to protect public officials who want to expose such practices.

This is all good!! But remember there MUST NOT be any form of double standard. If this legislation is good for the general public, it also must be good for the rich, corrupt cops, pastors, c e os, member of parliaments, party leaders, and even the Prime Minister himself when suspected of wrong doings.

Jamaica always have a way to exclude certain people. What good for the goose is also good for the gander.
