Jamaicas director of tourism, Paul Pennicook believes that tourism will be at an all time high as the island awaits the over anticipated cricket world cup of 2007. According to reports the cricket world cup will bring in, approximately, 600 million U.S dollars into the region. Preliminary proposals by the cricket world cup organizing committee will allocate $250 million for the construction of 8 new stadiums across the Caribbean in preparation for the games. Pennicook and Venue Development Director Don Lockerbie say they are challenging tourism players to take advantage of the business opportunities the 8 new stadiums will bring to the region. In addition, Lockerbie told reporters that this marks the single largest event in the history of the Caribbean, which he hopes will develop and promote other sporting events besides cricket in the region.
