Digicel Group has announced its entry into the Haitian telecommunications market. Haiti is the ninth country in the region in which Digicel provides cellular services.
The Groups entry is through partnership which a Haitian company called OneFone which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Haiti's GB Group.
Digicel's group chairman and principal, shareholder Denis O'Brien said the entry into Haiti would provide his company with enormous expansion prospects and should contribute significantly to the development of the country.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Digicel for further expansion," O'Brien said in the press statement issued on Wednesday. "This will also enable Digicel to make an important contribution to the growth and development of Haiti economically and socially.
Digicel's operations are in Aruba, Barbados, The Cayman Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Jamaica, St Vincent & the Grenadines, and St Lucia
