Guyanas bauxite industry is soon to get a boost from Russian investment.
The announcement was made by President Bharrat Jagdeo at a reception to mark the National Day of Russia held on Monday.
The Russian company, RUSAL, is investing in the local bauxite industry and a smelter may be on the cards
Noting his appreciation for Guyana's bilateral relations with Russia, which were established in 1970 (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), Jagdeo also said recent debt relief from Russia, seafood exports to Russia and education exchange programmes have all benefited Guyanese.
