$860 000 in ganja hauled off ship

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Barbadian Lawmen this week came face to face with the ingenuity of drug smugglers. The Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin confirmed Tuesday, a joint police, Coast Guard and customs operation discovered close to $1 million worth of marijuana bolted to the hull of a container ship docked in the Bridgetown Port.
According to an official statement, personnel from the Drug Squad and Marine Unit of the Police Force, Coast Guard and Customs Enforcement Unit discovered 215 pounds of ganja while checking container vessels arriving from South America.
During the search of an Antigua-registered vessel, the MV CFS Pamplona, which arrived from Venezuela [Monday], two metal containers were discovered bolted to the bottom of the vessel.
The containers were opened and 215 pounds of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $860 000, was discovered. No arrests were made at the time and investigations are continuing.
DRUGS SOS
Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur says the growing illegal drug trade is now posing a major threat to this island's national security.
From the floor of the Barbados House of Assembly, Arthur called for co-operation from the Prime Minister of St Vincent, Ralph Gonsalves, in dealing with a growing illegal drugs network. He described Gonsalves' response so far as "inadequate".
Arthur said some of this island's coastal communities were under siege by drug traffickers, and he specifically named Duppies in St Lucy and Six Men's in St Peter.
Arthur said 80 per cent of marijuana imported into Barbados was coming from St Vincent and statistics had revealed that over the last two years 18 275 pounds of ganja, with a street value of $48 million, seized during drug operations, were linked directly to St Vincent.

Free up de weed
I really tired of seeing these babylonians fighting down marijuana worldwide. Even hate to see people from the caribbean fighting it too.More Fire fi dem. Firstly ganja was put on the earth for I an I to use and hold a meditation. But I not even staring on that. The government dont really caters about the people in St.Vincent and other developing nations with high rates of unemploment, rising cost of living & general sufferation. Every industry that the country introdues just comes around & flops, apart from the ganja trade(no matter how they try).It is the only product that can be exported to the more powerfull countries, ie USA,UK,etc and be sold for a premium price.
So tell me what you want ghetto youth to do after common entrance. There are only a few sceondayry schools and only one A-level college.Marijuana is the healing of the nation.

fyah fi bun!
the world fights ganja down yet turns an almost blind-eye to the crack/cocaine epidemic that plagues the masses. ganja is misrepresented because smoking it is only for meditative purposes, but many use it solely for getting "high".
apart from aiding in the softening of chemotherapy side-effects, glaucoma blindness, hyper-tension; marijuana provides a means of economic self-stability.
many a farmer has staved off the perils of an impoverished existence. pretty much like tobacco and alcohol has done for the western farmers.
the same people who try to eliminate marijuana convene their persecutive meetings adjourning to the rum and cigar bars.
the cases of the negative effects of alcohol and cigarette abuses outnumber those of marijuana.

the bottom line is marijuana is not the problem. the problem lies within the individual(s) who misuse and misrepresent marijuana.
