Prime Ministers of Barbados and St Vincent square-off over ganja

Monday, June 20, 2005

The dispute between Barbados and St Vincent over the shipping of illegal drugs has reached a new level. The Prime Ministers of the two islands have joined the fray.
We reported last week that Barbados' Prime Minster Owen Arthur suggested that his counterpart from St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, was not doing enough to address his country's shipping of illegal drugs to Barbados.
But Mr. Gonsalves in an angry response claims Mr. Arthur is "dead wrong." The St Vincent Prime Minister told OECS Heads of Government Mr. Arthur had insulted the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines and their Prime Minister.
According to the Barbadian leader, more than 80 per cent of the marijuana entering Barbados comes from St Vincent.

Prime Minister Gonsalves was sworn in for his second term of office after the Unity Labour Party repeated the 12-3 flogging of the New Democratic Party, the same margin and seats won in the 2001 general election

Dispute between Barbados and St Vincent Over Drugs
I would say it fair to throw stones if there is prove that the drugs are coming from St Vincent. The Prime Minister need to be sure of the accusation he is making, why condem other country when every one know Barbados is big on dealing drugs. I think the Primister accusing other countries of trafficing drugs to take the attention/embarrassment away from Barbados. BARBADIAN ARE VERY BIG ON DRUGS

Vincy/ Bajan
No separation! We are all one in the melting pot that is the caribbean. These heads of power need to get together and find a consensus among each other.Do what is best for the further development for the region. There is already gross stigma against the caribbean eversince the ARUBA happenings.Last thing we need is to be labelled as DRUG-PUSHERS!
