World Champion Beaten

Monday, June 27, 2005

WBA Junior welterweight champion, Guyanese, Vicious Vivian Harris, lost his belt in a lackluster performance against an unknown at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City last Saturday Night. The winner, Columbian, Carlos Maussa, earned no fans from his unorthodox style and the punch he landed after the champion went down. Harris blamed his overtraining as the reason for his performance. However, fight fans saw it differently.
Colin Morgan former trainer of another Ex World Champion, Guyanese Wayne Big Truck Braithwaite, also spoke with Muzik Media. The end result is a financial disaster for Harris. He turned down an offer of $750,000 to fight England based WBC 140 pound Champion, Ricky Hatton because he felt he deserved more. Harris reportedly received $70,000 for this loss.

STUPID LOSS
I don't feel sorry for any of these Guyanese fighters that lost their title here in the US. Boxing is a very serious sport and it must be taken seriously. As a fellow Guyanese I must say that our last three champions all lost foolishly. They all have tons of self confidence but lack skills and dedication to the art of boxing. I can go down the list 6 heads, female Gwendolyn O'neil and now Harris, who's next?.

Gather yourself!!
Boxing is a sport as well as a business, with that said; it also required discipline, just like every other thing that is positive. One doesnt have to take a step back to go forward. Harris needs to stop pointing fingers and grasp every opportunity. Let your actions speak for you. I wish them all the best.
