UN peacekeepers in Haiti stormed a slum in Haitis capital, Port-au-Prince, killing armed gang members loyal to the country's ousted president Jean Bertrand Aristide.
At least two men were killed during several hours of gunfights between the 350 peacekeepers and armed men.
A powerful gang leader and supporter of Mr Aristide was reported to be among the dead.
The raid of the Cite Soleil shanty town, on the edge of the island, was the second slum offensive in two weeks.
A 7,000-strong contingent of UN peacekeepers has struggled to maintain order in Haiti since Mr Aristide's ouster in February last year.
Haiti is scheduled to hold elections later this year, though msny believe these might be delayed because of the unrest.
Get out
What are the troops doing in Haiti. It seems to me that there is some kind conspiracy going on. Insead of helping the haitain people by supplying them with food and shelter their just irradicating a country that is the poorest country in the western hempishere.

I agree, the african and carribean countrys must come together and solve ower own problem, and stop looking at each other as been diffrent, but too much of ower leaders and bussness community have that mind set. they need to stop thinking like the west.bless up to haiti RasTafari will not let his people suffer. hold the faith and be strong. this too will pass.I wish more people new the struggle haiti went threw for the struggle for black people freedom, and is paying for that now.

Unity
first, my condolences to those who lost their love ones on hurricane Dennis...the rest of the world don't care about black countries, in fact they wanna see 'em fail ...pres. Bush talkin' 'bout the world is safer without saddam...while people in Africa are dying with aids, famine, etc...with Haiti, they dont like the fact that we the first black republic, we even helped others to gain their independance......the only solution for every black country to survive is U.N.I.T.Y , respect one another on tha name of selassie..............one love
