Red Flags are now flying on the beaches from Accra to Dover, Christ Church, Barbados; an indication that they are off limits to sea-bathers.
Bathers have been asked to stay away from those beaches after a breach in the sewer system caused thousands of gallons of sewage to spill into a storm drain which then floated into the sea.
Officials from the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) said it would take at least three days to repair the main.
As an interim measure, red flags would be posted on the affected beaches and officials from the National Conservation Commission (NCC) would be patrolling the beaches on a 24-hour basis to ensure that bathers dont go into the water.
