The Guyana Government says it continues to examine additional ways to shield consumers from the brunt of worldwide rising oil prices. But President Bharrat Jagdeo says there may not be much more they can do.
Rising fuel prices have on several occasions caused Government to significantly reduce Consumption Tax on fuel. The latest development is the active discussion on the issue of hydropower for Guyana.
The last fuel crisis in Guyana in the 1970s resulted in long lines at fuel stations and severe shortages, even though the prices were lower than they are currently.
