St Lucia moving speedily to remedy nursing problems

Monday, July 18, 2005

St Lucian officials are taking urgent steps to deal with the migration crisis the islands nursing industry is facing. More developed nations are poaching on the local nurses with offers of better salaries and working conditions.
Minister with responsibility for Health Damian Greaves, openly admitted to Parliament, nurse migration has become one of the urgent areas impeding quality health delivery. As a result, officials are now looking at the possibility of doubling the number of nurses being trained, hoping this will solve the problem.
There are also plans to offer several special incentives for professionals, to prevent them from giving in to the attractive offers dangled before their eyes by rich countries such as Canada, the USA and others.

One hand washes the other
AS much as i hate to say this i dont think the government of St.Lucia can make an offer better than the US or Canada but they can make a deal with the younger nurses by offering to pay half their training cost in turn for a number of years where they would have to work on the island this could be as least a five.when this five years is up a raise in salary could be arranged or they could be free to persue their career over sees.
