Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur has appealed to Barbadians to be more accepting of Guyanese nationals who go to the island looking for work. He also spoke of developing a decent wage system where nationals and non-nationals are paid equally.
Speaking at the St Catherine's Cricket Club in Barbados, Prime Minister Arthur came out "batting" for Guyanese migrants on the island. He urged Barbadians not to be like what they are appearing to be like.
On July 19, 35 Guyanese, including four children from one family were denied entry to Barbados. Some of them were subjected to abusive comments from Barbadian immigration officials. Although there have been many instances of reported abuse by Barbados immigration officials to Guyanese travellers, this most recent incident sparked the biggest furore.

Don't pass judgment....
If Guyanese or any other nationals wants to enter Barbados legally and they intend to find work, then allow them. How many foreigners live in the US, don't have any working permits, but they are working? And alot of citizens can't find no work. That's life. If on the other hand, they stay in Barbados or any other country for that matter and commit crimes, then they can punish and/or send them back. But turning visitors back and passing judgment before they even enter the country is like "finding a suspect guilty before a trial"
I know alot of people who don't have legal working documents here. Taxpayers like myself have to pay for their kids to go to school and get healthcare and so on.
I think visitors should only be denied entry into another country if that country has reasonable cause to do so. Not because of where the visitor is from or how much money he or she may have. Right now we all need to reach out to each other especially in these post-Katrina times.

Working together!
I didn't think you placed allot of thought into your comments;talk about discrimination and ignorance....!They are all caricom countries,it's not about who has a wife or boyfriend at home..!That's not the problem at hand, that's how war starts. We are all brothers and sisters in the Caribbean.Remember what goes around the West Indies comes around the Wes Indies,i.e the Prime Minister is putting his people frist or at least looking out for them!

Bajan Harassment of Guyanese nationals
It is nothing short of appalling and unacceptable the way a Caricom member country's subjects are treated with disrespect, scorn and overt abuse by ignorant Bajan Immigration officials. Barbados is committing an infraction of bilateral obligations of free travel by a member state, Guyanese ,to the island. Clean up your act now, or we might have to resort to retaliate with the same treatment to Bajans travelling to Guyana.

Guyanese in bim
Why is the Prime Minister to let Guyanese in to work when their are so many Bajan want work themself. I thought the government put Bajans first and not guyanese. I know that their come in and marry the Bajan girls only to get their papers meanwhile their have their wife in Guyana.
