Moves are afoot to establish a building in Washington D.C. to be named in honor of Shirley Chisolm.
The group behind this initiative, Caribbean People International Collective (CPIC), says its building fund is hoping to raise $ 10 million over the next three years in order to finance the construction of the Shirley Chisolm Caribbean Hut.
The building is to include a museum, banquet center and offices, and should be finished in 2008. Ms Chisolm was born in the U.S but her parents are from Guyana and Barbados.
Other initiatives of COPIC include funding for a project to help resettle deportees to the Caribbean from the US.
