PJ out by April

Wednesday, September 14, 2005

Jamaican Prime Minister P J Patterson announced this week that he will step down ahead of next year's budget - usually delivered by April - but said that he plans a short interregnum between the election of a new leader of the governing People's National Party (PNP) and his own departure as head of government.
The 70 year old Patterson has long made it clear that he would not lead the PNP into another general election, but this weeks announcement, in a speech to the closing session of the PNP's 67th annual conference, was the most precise timetable he has so far given of his retirement and his strategy for the transition.
Before he leaves, Patterson told thousands of delegates and supporters packed into Kingston's National Arena, he planned to introduce his successor to a number of international leaders and travel around Jamaica with the new party leader in a farewell caravan.

PJ
IF WE TAKE A LOOK AT JAMAICA ECONOMICAL AND EDUCATIONAL STATUS WE SEE THAT IT HAS ACTUALLY GOTTEN WORSE SINCE MR.PJ PATTERSON CAME INTO OFFICE. MAYBE MORE THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE BUT I DIDN'T GE A CHANCE TO STUDY THAT. PJ JUST CONTINUE TO RULE TO THE BENEFICIAL OF THE WORLD BANK. WE GET DEEPER INTO DEBT, CUT OUR OWNS COUNTRIES ASSUMPTION TO PAY BACK INTEREST TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO JAMAICA'S PROBLEM BUT I HOPE THE NEXT LEADER HAS A CLUE. IF NOT, I DON'T KNOW THE FUTURE OF THAT COUNTRY.

P.J.
I think Patterson did do something for the country, but to some people maybe not enough. For the people who are badmind towards the man, I think its because before he was Prime Minister, They felt he could not do anything positive for Jamaica and now they see he has done little improvements, so they feel they have to bash him. Granted, he has not solved the problem of the crime called murder, but he can't do it by himself, it is also up to us the Jamaicans to change our ways and help improve our homes, then our towns, then our government, then our country. I think thats the main problem why we can't prosper as a country because we expect our leaders to do everything for us. The fact is we will never find a country to hand everything on a silver platter. Not even here in America and right now its getting so hard you can't even afford the silver platter for yourself. We need to work together and that mean EVERYONE must work to make it better.

Time will Tell
There is a documentary film called "Life and Debt" by Stephanie Black and it shows some of things that caused Jamaica to be in the state it is in today. Primarily during the time of 'independence' is of concern with this film. It is real good and I urge people to check this film out.

PJ should have resigned longtime;
Resign,pj, resign, shearer and Seaga was much better than u;PNP lies, full of deceit, bad management, cost overruns, corruption and lies ; Just checkout the prices, de immorality, devaluations, the AIDS crisis, the social crisis, people work all 40 years fi govt and thru devaluation dem insurance value only 1,000 US ,dem pensions is an insult to them and all PJ do is go beggin again at UN; I hail him as a Jamaican, but he mislead us, as he set no good standards.Happy riddance, resign ow. There will many more black Leaders of Jamaica, that we hope will be much better than PJ; I just do not think he did his best, he tried but his own lack of adherence to good principles let us all down;Right now, we want laborites, suh 25 years times ,when we evaluate, many PNP faithfuls, we see how bad PJ led;NO kudos, his policies will be topic ,for next general elction....So rathid, resign PJ...resign to rass!

Jamaican mentality
It doesn't matter who will be the next prime minister or who is running PMP. JAMAICANS will always vote for PMP because they of they love the party.... Jamaicans are loyal and thats the bottom line. I've seen one year where a husband killed his wife because they disagree about PMP and JLP during an election in Ochi about 2 elections ago.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
i have read all the comments that you people have posted and i am not one bit amazed. jamaicans are always ready to point fingers but take just a second to see the direction in which the thumb is pointing. stop blaming pj and all the other party leaders and start taking responsibility for our own actions. they did not destroy jamaica, we did, with all the violence, with all the drugs and even with all the goood people that flee the island and give their talent to other country. we spend so much time building other people country and twice as much destroying our own. it does not matter who leads the country the people alway have the handle, use it. remember that "OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE". a step up time fi de yaadie dem

its time for a change
I am very happy to hear that mr p.j patterson is retireing, I personally does not like this man, this man has not done anything for the jamaican people, look whats going on, in the island that we all love, too much people are dying, people cannot get jobs because they aren,t any, they are suffering, they cannot find food to feed their children,i am just hoping that his successor brings a new idea to the table because the jamaican people need it.

P. J Paterson's contribution
Our honorable priminister P. J. Paterson has served our country well, and have the utmost respect for him and what he's done. The majority for the most part is usually write, and P. J has won 4 elections not because he's liked by the people but right now he's the best leader from which to choose from. And until Edward Seaga is replaced the JLP will never win anymore elections....
