In Guyana, a massive investigation has been ordered into the mysterious disappearance of a trawler and tankers loaded with thousands of gallons of smuggled fuel from a facility where it was impounded. The bust was at Buddys farm on the East Coast of Demerara.
The trawler has since been returned to the location minus the several thousand gallons of fuel. The trouble has set off alarm bells among the local security forces.
The trawlers and tankers were impounded when officials of the Guyana Energy Agency, GEA, swooped down on the facility, which is located near the Demerara River and arrested ten persons. A senior GEA official was among those being questioned.
A local newspaper reported, a security lapse may have been responsible for the removal of the impounded vehicles. Prime Minister Sam Hinds has assured the nation, the Government is committed to getting tlo the bottom of the incident. Since the high rise in fuel prices, the GEA has been on a massive campaign to clamp down on the smuggling of fuel.
