Haiti donates $36,000 to US hurricane victims

Monday, October 10, 2005

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - The poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere yesterday offered help to the wealthiest to help it cope with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
Haitian Finance Minister Henri Bazin handed an oversized ceremonial check to the top US diplomat in the impoverished Caribbean country.
"It is an historic occasion," Bazin said. "After all this is the first time ever that we have sent money to the United States."
The vast majority of Haitians live on less than $1 (euro0.84) a day because their economy is in ruins.
The grant was for US$36,000 (euro30,200), of which US$11,000 (euro9,200) came from private sector donations.
The United States has provided substantial aid to Haiti over the years, including US$20 million (euro16.8 million) in 2004 to help cope with the damage from Hurricane Jeanne.

NO WAY!
I am not Hatian; but I have read about their not only of their poverty also the crimes that the rebels are committing. Early this year I have read The Daily News paper where Hatians are being help hostage, rape, murder and demands of their families overseas topay large sums of money that they don't have .Did America try and help these people? No!. I want to beleive in give and it shall be given unto you and all those spiritual saying. God Damn IT black and poor people have been suffering for far too long ang too much yet nothing is changing . i myself and you all born in unfairness, among wicked people and we are going die without ever seeing things change for black people. Because life is unfair itself. The rich get richer and the poor getting pooer and damn poorer. Peace!

That was sweet
Haiti did the right thing not because you dont have it like they do does'nt mean you can help.Haiti is a poor country not because the ppl so called stink or this or that Haiti is poor because of what happened back in the day Haiti was the first carribean Island to do alot of things and for that they are being punished no real help from no other countries no real natural resouces that can really make the Island money and if we go back in time we know why Haiti and Dominican Republic is the same Island but has been separated by war the spaniards and the french so we see because us black ppl want to be our own ppl we are sufering and that is way Haiti is poor and will forever be poor sorry to say but it is true

reverse kindness
kindness is a good thing.......but to hell with the USA they should be the ones giving usd$100,000.00 to Haiti they are the real cause of that nation being in the poverty stricken state that it is in now. My heart goes out to the victims in New Orleans but their government is presently utitlizing millions of their tax dollars in the middle east right now.......they need to draw on their own resources and say o Haiti "thank you very much for your kindness but, we can afford more than you can, so we will match what you are offering and give back to you"

LEts BE Real
haiti Is poor. We don't have a strong government. But don't blame it on other countries. Haiti needs to UNITE, I mean all Haitians from everywhere. The ones in haiti. The ones all over that left and went someplace else only to forget where they came from. Haitians need to start sticking together instead of seperating theirselves. That was generous for haiti to help the hurricane victims. Now it's time for the government and the people to cooperate in helping the country haiti be a better place. Work in a nonviolent way that is. Haiti Needs UNity AMONGst all HAitians.

Some Caribbean countries is not poor.
The "first and second world" countries al ways say that the some caribbean countires are poor but seeing that some of the not so wealthly countries like Hatti,Guyana,Cuba and Suriname were able to give aid to american for hurricane Katrina vitcims.Whcih their requested.Know that theses contries have major problem and are recovering form deasters.Guyana i still recovering from post flood effect.Cuba at that same time was recovering and trying to rebuild from two other hurricane.Hatti was also recovering from the flood that killed 1000 in March this year and also from it political problem and civil unrest.Suriname on the other hand land some drought and other problem. This should be a lession to these people bent on only distroying the image of these country. This is like the stroy of the mouse and the lion which most of us know

Bay piti pa di chich
They might say whatever they feel like but we are the first black country to say no and fight colonialism and we won. We have too much problems from inside and outside like many other countries and we are a young nation 200 years only. If we were organized 200 yrs ago. We would probably send 36 millions to them but we can't give what we don't have.
