Six months into his assignment in Jamaica, the salary of Mark Shields, the first of five foreign police officers being recruited to transform the constabulary and its policing tactics, is yet to be finalised by the government. And it is unlikely to be resolved this year.
However Shields said for now he remains on secondment from the London Metropolitan police, therefore he's on their payroll.
His salary will be paid by London up to next year, at which point Shields would have completed 30 years with the London Metropolitan. His salary continues to be one as a detective chief superintendent. He earns 63,000 pounds sterling per year, that about 7 million Jamaican dollars.
The finance ministry and the Jamaica Police Services Commission are still battling with the challenge of how to structure the contracts of the foreign officers who are unlikely to accept salaries below what they received in their home countries.

Correction
I made a mistake, the first line should read; the problem of solving Jamaica"s crime problem is not inporting police from abroad. Gun men take a look at yourself and make a change you can do it. Just try and see how life can turn arround. You are beautiful people and Jah loves you more than you think. I am not going to respond in an a bad way, I am just not like that. This is my take
This answer to solve Jamaica's crime problem is importing police from abroad, the people who are doing the crime will have to make that change. No government can chage that. When we realised that we are killing our ownselves then we stop. The government can help by giving people skills. We should remember that more crime you have in Jamaica and other contries, it better for the econmy of the develop countries, their Guns will sell, people will be scared to return home, therefore their skills and money will stay where they get it, the develop countries will get richer and richer and underdeveloped countries will get poor and more poorer. Remember during slavery the family structure was not perserved so when you are killing someone remember you are killing your own brother. Comit as much crime has you want but remember this, no contry can grow if it's citizen dont feel safe. Is this the country you want your children to grow up in?
