Education officials in Antigua and Barbuda, are facing some embarrasment that a man deported from New Jersey in August was found teaching economics at a Government school. The man was deported on August 10 after spending 14 years of a 17 year sentence for a cocaine conspiracy charge.
One education official said a great deal of blaming and name calling is now taking place.
Immigration officials confirmed the man was indeed deported to Antigua in early August.
News of the man's hiring by the Education Ministry has sparked off a large debate, with many expressing alarm and shock as they questioned whether or not thorough checks were done. Some are however sympathetic, contending that the ex-con deserves a chance to put his life back on even keel.
