The United States is seeking to extend the range ships have to identify themselves and their locations by 2,000 miles. The plan could have implications for Caribbean ships passing between countries in the region even though they may not be heading to the US. Some Caribbean officials are questioning the validity of the proposition, believing the extension is a ploy that would give the US Homeland Security, opportunity to check out the origins of deployed Caribbean ships and contents of its cargo. |
