Former United States President, Jimmy Carter has lashed out against Guyana's political leaders while calling for peace talks between two of the main parties. Carter is critical of the deadlock stemming from divisions between the population of African and East Indian descent. While addressing both parties he stated "Of all the countries I have visited in the world, Guyana has the most unrealized potential. Carter warned that if no indication of a good faith effort, is made by political players to resolve the deadlock, his organization would no longer participate in the monitoring of general elections in Guyana. According to President Carter, who is also a Nobel Peace Prize winner the problem could be solved with basic constitutional changes in the system of governance |
