Haiti apologises to Dominican Republic for violence

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

The Dominican Republic said Haiti had apologized through diplomatic channels for street protests that forced Dominican President Leonel Fernandez to cut short his visit to the neighboring country.
The foreign ministry pointed out that the incidents will not affect "brotherly" relations between the two countries.
The protests erupted while Fernandez was meeting his Haitian counterpart, Boniface Alexandre, in the presidential palace in Port-au-Prince.
Demonstrators burned tires, erected barricades and threw stones and bottles at the Dominican delegation's motorcade, damaging one of the official cars.
The protests, against the Dominican Republic's alleged mistreatment of Haitian immigrants, forced Fernandez to cancel a scheduled meeting with Haitian presidential candidates running in the January elections.

I was just looking for this info for a while. After six hours of ctuoinuons Googleing, finally I got it in your site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this type of informative web sites in top of the list. Usually the top web sites are full of garbage.

this is 2 much
its all fuck up but true about the way they treat each other and i think its cuz both sides are just to scared to bury the hatchet. see when i was small my parents took me down to hispaniola to visit my cuzzinz, aunts and uncles and i got the same treatment from cousins on both sides and i ended up havin to throw hands with my own cousins wether i was in haiti or D.R. my parents are both half haitian and dominican and in my house we don't claim sides we just wish one day or sooner all this turmoil stops because HISPANIOLA was united at one time.

part 3
But in a time in age, where even Nevis is trying to separate from St. Kitts, they being very small islands; could this unity happen any time soon? The reality is these Caribbean island nation states are too small to survive on their own, so that is why their is movements going on right now to form a whole new nation state of all the contemporary Caribbean island nations. Maybe it can begin on the island of Hispaniola?

part 2
White and Brown Haitians are at the top, while the dark skinned Black Haitians are the poorest, and forced to migrate to the Dominican Republic where they are discriminated as well. The White and Brown Dominicans also discriminate against dark skinned Black Dominicans. See, so both countries have many similarities and commonalities, but I believe the DR has more of a history of Eurocentric government brainwashing in my opinion. That's why the contemporary population of DR is the way it is, their minds are products of their past and present Eurocentric governments. In the end its one island, and perhaps if they can get over their prejudices, this unity will beat out the problems due to the current divisions.

statements about the island
One island, divided into two nation states, there are both Black and Brown people in each nation state, and that makes up the majority, there are Whites on both sides of the island but they are indeed the MINORITY. It is very hard to decolonize the mind of DR because of its Eurocentric history via the Trujillo dictatorship. Most Dominicans are of African descent like the Haitians, yet the Haitians embrace it more so than the Dominicans. However even Haitians denounce their African heritage when they reject African descended Voodoo, and are also controlled by Eurocentric ideologies.

BACK UP !!!!
That's how mess up the world have become that even when it's been taught in school of our ancestors we still disowned who we are.The D.R. think that they are WHITE , common sense you don't have natural blonde hair and blue eyes. But of course they R--- them the same way they did us; so their images are the same. They are just another N---- as the Haitians are. They can't talk to me or my associates; because I know how to put them in their place. The only thing that they THINK they have over us BLACKS is the so-called pretty hair. Which they are so wrong; because mine is in my back too. And sisters if you can't "Grow it Sew" it . (Sometimes people cause you to go there in terms of nasty attitudes). When you don't want to.

Que Lastima
From what I have heard from some of my Haitian friends, Domicans are very prejudiced against Haitians and have them as servants in their country paying them little or no money at all, in essence slavery. If Dominicans are doing that (not suprised) then shame on them, que lastima!

Every turn is a dead end!
Every turn the nation of Haiti has turned lately seems to be a dead end. The people are so angry at every body and everything. You people need to be united on something. For being the first country to gain independence in Latin America, Haiti should be far more advance than Jamaica, Cuba, Barbados and Trinidad put together.

Many people are trying to figure out what is holding back Haiti. No one can pin point exactly what the problem is.

I am starting to think democracy will not work in Haiti more than dictatorship.

What works for one country might not work for another. All I want to see is a UNITED HAITI with UNITED HAITIANS!

TRY AND UNDERSTAND, (I DO )
people demonstrate their anger in many ways; don't tell me to be nice , don't cry , don't protest, don't fight when my family is hungry and can't find a job when I'm willing to work. These are natural behavior of a person who is fed up; and some people are already born with mental disability . Their brains can't be stress out too much. People "Do you know what it is like to be carrying an ever lasting heavy load on your shoulder/back or head.

It is Sad
I am Dominican but haven't really visited the country. Last time i went was about 4 years ago and the way Haitianz were being treated amazed me! Like I said, I am Dominican but we have no goddamn right to fuckin treat people like that because of the color of our skin or because we have more money or this and that and on. I have great uncles that are blacker than blak and love haitians. Haitians are very hard workers and I really hope one day i can visit our country and find us livin in harmony...and that comes from di heart, no bullshit

Serve Them Right
Almost every Dominican I have ever met always has something bad to say about Haitians and Haiti itself. Dominicans like to go on like they are high and mighty because of there light skin complexion. It's sad. Hispanola is one beautiful island divided into two countries, and if these two countries could ever learn to get along then I believe it would benefit both people and not just one as it is now. Dominicans need to stop treating the Hatians so poorly. The prejudism needs to stop.

peace, please
Its unfortunate that the Dominicans and Haitans cants find common ground, and peace. its something that has been going on for a long time, i should know, because i am Dominican, whos heard plenty of the horrible things dominicans have done to Haitans and vice versa, but that doesnt mean that the haitans should attack the president and start a riot. because if peace its trying to be established between the two neighboring countries, rioting is not going to help.

Wrong move
I don't believe that Haiti should have apologized. Dominican Republic has a LONG history of abuse towards Haiti/Haitians and this should have been expected.
