Guyanas President and Opposition Leader are still to meet on the delayed Chancellor and Chief Justice consultations. The meetings according to the government was planned about two weeks ago.
But Opposition Leader Robert Corbin claims he was still awaiting a response to a letter he had sent to President Bharrat Jagdeo about the consultations. He is concerned about the President's nominee for Chancellor, Chief Justice Carl Singh.
Since the first and only meeting between the two leaders on the appointment of a Chancellor in April, President Jagdeo has publicly named Chief Justice Carl Singh as his candidate. He has also said that a search committee has been working to identify a suitable candidate for Chief Justice. But Corbins letter raises concern about "public perception that the Presidents nominee has a predisposition of leaning in favor of the State rather than ensuring the rights of citizens
