After a year of down-sizing and job cuts in a bid to squeeze itself into profitability, Air Jamaica is facing a loss of over $8B. The airline has signalled a review of the business model it crafted merely months ago.
Recently-appointed chairman, O K Melhado, attributed a big chunk of this year's loss to the grounding of half of Air Jamaica's then 20-plane fleet for maintenance by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), at the prodding of America's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
A critical part of the ariline's review, will focus on how to keep the Air Jamaica planes flying longer hours so as to better amortise the investment in the aircraft.
Currently the carrier has its planes in the sky about eight hours per day, but this needs to be increased to twleve hours, Melhado said.

My Comment Re- Air Jamaica
I think Air Jamaica is one of the best airline interms of good services. I traveled with the airline for the first time and it was a great experence, I was able to get proper service during flight . The flight atendants were very professional. For that I will give them a good rating. I would also like to commend all the Navigators, Pilots and Flight Attendants. Thanks Air Jamaica, you are doing a good job.

Re-Open
As a Jamaican living in the US (Boston) all I have to say is that Air Jamaica needs to fly out of Boston again. I will never fly again on American Airlines or thru Philly. I don't get my luggage or I missed my connected flight. I can deal with the late departure out of Jamaica but I couldn't deal with the last minute canculations.

LATE! LATE! LATE!
The biggest thing that I dislike about my Air Jamaica is that they are ALWAYS LATE! I can deal with the ticket price but their late arrival is another thing.
Still no other airline can beat their in-flight service. I was on an American Airlines flight from Kingston to New York, not even a peace of bread they had to offer. The staffs were very unprofessional. Many people made statements they would not fly American again.

SAME THING
All the fare are actually the same, just a $1.00 less. When you go to the airport, don't let your luggage weigh a ounce over. You'd be wondering if you're on America Airline, Air jamaica or British Airways or any other cheap Airways.

Air fare
I think the price is about the same as other airlines, dont be fooled by advertisment that have hidden cost. I travel a lot and I know.

ridiculous airfares
I am a bahamian/jamaican living in Nassau and at this point I am so frustrated with the cost of travelling from Nassau to Jamaica, i think air jamaica should really take a long hard look at all the business they will eventually loose on the nassau route especially if bahamas air decides, to pick up the kingston or montego bay routes. Please treat us better we want to support our national carrier, so work with us on those prices.

AirJamaica expansion
My second comment is that AirJamaica should improve on the routes that presently exist, make some changes that will allow individuals to want to fly with AirJamaica. Improvement will bring divident in the short term therefore the expansion on new routes will be worth it in the long term. If there is a problem with a flight scheduled, travellers were unbable to leave as scheduled, make it possible for them to get ther earliest start possible, not to wait for regular shedule flitght that could be fully booked, get them on their way ASAp. If someone has death and is needed to make preparation they don't want to wait longer than they have to for a flight, they want to get to their destination. Most Jamaica Airline travellers outside the peek season have an emergency whenever travel is done out of season, those are the travellers that are most important. There is an ergency in the trip, at 6:00 a.m. in the morning, there should be staff at the AirJamaica desk to assist travellers.

Air Jamaica expansion
Recently I travelled from Canada to Jamaica and I was very dissapointed in the way the airline does business, first of all travellers like to feel confident with the airline they travel with and not discarded or feel neglected by the airline. On Nov11/05 on business to Jamaica while I was in the Pearson International airport I saw every other airline had staff at the airlines front dest from 6:00am, ready for business, If the passengers were not sure where to wait, there was someone there to assist and answer question. When I spend money to travel with AirJamaica, I want to give my buiness to Jamaica, that is where I want to spend my money but if the airline doesn't see travellers as important to their growth individuals will not want to use AirJamaica much.
By the way what is Yow, when you are addressing someone. This is just one way of how AirJamaica should think outside the box. Don' address someone as Yow. CHANGE! CHANGE! CHANGE
