BLIMP UP BLIMP DOWN

Tuesday, January 3, 2006

Back to Trinidad's crime fight, there is a new crime fighting blimp in the sky even as the first ship remains grounded. Adjustments were being made to the other ship which was purchased at a total cost of 25 million dollars
But neither craft is intended as a solution to crime, says Head of the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago, Brigadier Peter Joseph.
The new airship has apparently not been purchased but is there on a three-month trial. However the government will have to foot the cost of having the airship flown to Trinidad from the US and the operational cost for the trial period. The total tally is 100,000 U.S dollars per month.
Joseph defended the temporary acquisition and the Unit's airship programme on the whole, saying it is not a waste of money.
He said this blimp is bigger and faster, was acquired to provide additional assistance in combating crime over the upcoming Carnival period.

BLIMP UP BLIMP DOWN
I can see the headlines now..... Gunman Shot Down BLIMP and escape........ Do you guys really think a BLIMP will help with crime in Trinidad or even in all the Caribbean..... Tell the the North Americans, Sout Americans, Europe, Asian Continent to use it to fight Crime and War. You will see how they LAUGH at you....... Use the money to do better things like healthcare, Jobs or even hire more Police presence be integrated within all communities to flush out crime at the root of it........ One thing for sure, in Jamaica that BLIMP Idea will never " FLY "

Crime and Blimp
The Crime situation is a very serious matter in the region, Trinidad included ,however, Government and The Private sector needs to take a closer look at some of the social issues that are part of the problem. Getting a Blimp wont solve anything. Everyday the population is growing and the social infastructures are not growing to match the needs of the people. Bottom line overload and short circuit. People commit Crime to survive. Try and work with the people, make them feel important, too much Policing can have negative effect too.

Re-Blimp
I agree with you it is a waste of money to do that, those millions could go to the people to give them a start in a smalll buseness. It is too expensive for a flying balloon.
