A number of local contractors in Guyana have been invited to provide quotations for various works at the cricket stadium being built at Providence, East Bank Demerara. This is to help speed up the work of the main contractor.
Ministry of Public Works site engineer Walter Willis said the project was currently on schedule, but the projection was to have it completed ahead of the October 31, 2006 deadline.
However, as of early this week no contractor had responded.
The stadium is being built by Indian company.
Willis denied the project needs rescuing.
One of the things engaging government's attention at this time was the naming of the stadium and whether the buildings and stands in the stadium would be given names.
