T&T's energy minister resigns
Trinidad's energy minister, Eric Williams resigned just before he was arraigned on charges of accepting bribes in a lucrative energy project.
Following his surrender to authorities, former Cabinet minister Eric Williams appeared before senior Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim on seven counts of bribery. No court date was set.
Prime Minister Patrick Manning in a statement said the Minister had submitted his resignation the nigth before.
Williams and former Works Minister Franklin Khan were accused in Parliament on April 27, 2005 of accepting bribes to give local company, Geo Seis Services, a contract to work on a seismic survey conducted by a Canadian company, Terra Seis. Terra Seis has denied any involvement.
Khan earlier resigned from Cabinet and was set free on bail, but he has remained a member of Parliament.
Both men have maintained their innocence.
