In Guyana floodwaters threatened the survival of animals and caused riverain residents more concern as levels rose even higher early in the week.
At Mahaica, 12 miles upriver, the river had risen by seven inches.
Cattle farmers are reportedly trying desperately to save livestock which had been safe a week before.
The swagger of the three rivers, Mahaiaca, Mahaicony and Abary, were said to be fast approaching 1996 flood levels. Some residents were thinking about evacuation.
Cattle, sheep and goats, were believed to be hardest hit by the flood waters. A representative from the National Dairy programme reported he saw cows swimming and grazing in flood waters stretching as far as the eye could see.
