The development of the V.C. Bird International Airport may not meet the scope expected by the public in time for Cricket World Cup 2007.
Head of the Antigua & Barbuda Millennium Airport Corporation, Ken Hurst said that the presumption, that phase one of the airports development will be completed in time for the cricket event, is misguided.
It has been widely maintained that although the entire airport development could not be completed before the event, the first phase, which involves the construction of a new passenger terminal, would be finished.
Hurst pointed out that even Barbados, which has just completed work on its new airport, will need to put up additional facilities to cater to World Cups specific needs. He noted that it would have been virtually impossible for any of the countries to build a terminal that caters for World Cup in the middle of the tourist season
