Jamaica Bobsled

Monday, February 20, 2006

A former Jamaican bobsledder is now an Olympic medallist. Lascelles Brown, who pushed sleds for Jamaica from 1999 until 2004, has helped Canada win a silver medal, in two-man bobsledding at the winter games in Turin.
Brown became a Canadian citizen last month and earned the right to represent his new homeland. He and driver Pierre Lueders finished the two-day, four-run competition behind Germany.
He is the second black bobsled medallist in Winter Olympic history.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
It kills me when people say that the white men will run you out of their country. Ya'll make it seems as it's only black people alone as immigrant resides in white man country. The word Immigrant means "Someone who migrate from their country and lives in another country. You know how many Immigrant live in other countries; but because they are not black people don't judge them as Immigrants. I guess physical slavery is near again.

Congrats
Its good to see another athlete from the caribbean succeeding. It seems though that the big countires such as the USA and Canada depend on citizens from other countries to be sucessful. Canada can thank the caribbean for producing for them Donavon Bailey, Ben Johnson, now Lascelles the USA track team consist of ahletes with caribbean roots such as lauryn williams (tnt), sanya richards (jamaica)

Big Up to the Olympians
Congrats to both but a special big up to the Jamaican. That's what we do. We are proactive and effective where ever we go. Jamaica wasn't too keen on sponsorship so you found somewhere else to be effective and it paid off.
Congrats way to go

still no done yet
I'm sure any dedicated athlete will tell you that in order to achieve your dreams, you adapt and adopt, by continually improving yourself, and your support crew/team. You seek to improve the environment that you train in. you seek to improve the sponsorships that you can acquire. and you sometimes have to make difficult yet necessary decisions, like moving to another country. I personally am glad that our Olympian chose Canada as his new home. Canada is a country that allows you to be proud of you heritage no matter where you come from, while still calling yourself a Canadian.

Congratulations to Him, His team, and his foundation.

in Canada, Jamaicas, among other nationals, are respected for the contributions they make to our society. We are respected for being able to come to a foreign land and succeed against certain odds. The feat that Lascelles achieved is by no means just for Canada. It represents the culmination of his efforts that began in Jamaica, and it's a testament to the support that Lascelles found and built upon in his native land, as well as the support and encouragement he found in his adopted country.

Lascelles
To my sister complaining about the choices that Black Men make when it come to love. I didn't have a black girlfriend in High School, and it wasn't because I wasn't trying. Luckily, i never gave up on my Sistahs, and have had some quality relationships both with Black women and White women. The skin colour is not high on my priority list, as it is to find a woman who makes me proud to be by her side. Ambitious, caring, Strong woman, black or white. or yellow or brown or red for that matter...I feel blessed to have known many.

Step Forward
Many people believe in order too go far u have to stick to ur land but many time the opportunity presents itself somewhere else (nothing comes to u) this young man walked up on that opportunity and took it. Now i dont know what makes u Jamaican but letting it pass and waiting for one to be handed to u would makes u Crazy.. (Knowing in ur heart who u are and what u want is what guides us in this world) Look at the story people that medal has great connections (Jamaica and Canada) now the Canadian giving him a chance is something to be Respected.. But none of this would be possible without that Life we had In Jamaica. Now too the sister who felt Hurt that by his choice in woman, I believe in Equal rights and justice for all (and that applies in matters of the heart too) brother congratulation to u and ur family both in Jamaica and Canada

Born To Sled!!!
You see, if he were to to stay in JA, he would never had the opportunity to go as far, because the backing is not there.
If some of the entertainers, and drug men decided to give back instead of buying big fancy car, house, and women then there may be a fighting chance. If you as a person are always looking for others to justify you, then you will stand alone!

WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE
Not only Jamaicans forget where they come from; but most black people. Look at most successful singers/rappers; who was born and raised in the projects(ghetto). Yet they get rich and swicth. Married white females and forget about the black females who dated them in high schools when they had braces, afro, and thick frame glass (not to mention their bony ass). I still show him nuff love regardless, I did in the begining and I won't take it back. We didn't stick together the way we should've since we (the slave) were freed.
