Guyana is among the first set of countries to benefit from a new anti-malaria drug. The newly launched drug called COARTEM is said to be the fastest acting anti-malaria medicine, destroying parasites in 48 hours. Worldwide, approximately 300 million people are affected by the disease, and between one and one point five million die from it each year. Novartis, one of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies is said to supply unlimited quantities of COARTEM in malaria prevalent developing countries, such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
