Pensions in Dominica under threat

Monday, May 22, 2006

The Dominica Social Security (DSS) has advised that pension reform is a must. It warns that reserves of the facility may be depleted within twenty years.

According to DSS Chairperson Dr Valda Henry, pension reform cannot be postponed.

The DSS is the largest mobiliser of savings in the country with its reserves accounting for 27.5 per cent of GDP, a few years ago.

The DSS Scheme was incorporated in 1975 and came into effect on February 1st, 1976. Its predecessor, the National Provident Fund (NPF) was established in 1970.

Currently, employees contribute three percent, while employers contribute 6.81 percent.

waw
these are just the sort of things that make me wonder if it is worth going home in that struggle to live, is that some of us just do not have a choice but to stay in the system. I agree with my friend, any thing which is proposed by the gov.t will be placed in effect in the future. just wish they could propose a thriving economy and accomplish that.

Pension Problems Everywhere!!!!
This is also a problem in North America also. If you are about 37 years old or so, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get a pension when you retire and if you do, you won't be able to live on it. Already some seniors have to keep on working after age 65. Medication is the main culprit, some kinds are not covered under "Medicare".

The experts are saying that we should use the equity on our homes to live, that's is if you have a home! It is difficult road to travel.

So upsetting
Its just so!! huh! i dont even know what to say cocerning that land i was born into. Is like everthing is a big joke in that country, how dear for one moment someone, firm or whatever could mention that something as beneficial as social security benefits be turn down or postponed.. all them shit there jus keep discouraging young people who thinking of contributing to their home land. Theses things dont just come out like that, if it was said i certainly believe it would proceed. My wish for that country is that our leaders organisations etc wake up and smell the coffee, just hope it wont be too late peace.
