Political impasse threatens elections in Guyana

Monday, May 22, 2006

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over the holding of General Elections in Guyana. The local Elections Commission failed to decide on the contentious issue of house-to-house verification of the voters' list. The elections are scheduled to be held sometime before September 4th.
A joint opposition group made up of the main opposition PNCR, WPA and ROAR have called for the house-to-house process. The group has threatened street protests if their demands were not met.
The ruling party, the People's Progressive Party (PPP), has argued the claims and objections period allows for verification of names on the voters' list. It argues house-to-house verification was untimely.
Both sides have refused to budge from their stated positions and talks eventually collapsed without any major decisions.
Last week the joint opposition group protested outside the commission's head office in Georgetown.

Ya need to come together as one and unite under God as one not as individuals.
first thing that I must say is that I was born in Guyana and now I live in America. I am not happy with the way the goverment is handling the political issues that are attacking the black race and the amerindian people are living every well. Jagdeo is such a racist all he care about is his people

Same problem in Guyanna needed everywhere in the world
We need help for every country in the world. We have the same issues with crime and poverty and the funny thing is that the problems reside from another problem. We live in a society in which the goverment and officals are corrupted and are not stepping to the plate to help those who are less fortunate. But we as a people ignore the problem and allow them to do whatever they want. They can't govern us if there is nobody to govern so we must take action and unite as one to fight this current explotation. United we stand divided we fall so take your pick

I AM HOPING
I am hoping that neither of the two corrupted political parties win, because they go against each other and they seperate people through race.

I was hoping that a new political party would be established to rid themselves of the past corruption. The next election in GT is causing tension and words behind close doors about which race this one favors or the other one favors. My hope is that a new party comes that does not aim at race but aim at creating revenues for the people of Guyana.

People of Guyana nah need fighting we need love and fairness for all the people, whether them big or small, black or brown. My hope for a party of fairness for all people of Guayana has not been establish as yet and probably will never be established. Despite all that I view my opinion in hope that such a party would be established in the near future, because what we are dealing with is two evils where you choose the lesser evil.

Will the upcomming elections help Guyana???
lOYALTY,TRUST,LOVE OF SELF AND COUNTRY, ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE LACKING IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC ,no elections or leader will help build this nation,it takes Gutsy people to return home and solve the problems they think they see safely from Canada,America and Europe

guyana
They need to hurry up and decide what they are actually going to do because we need to avoid protest and I think that Guyana needs a new president who is capable of making these decisions.
