The UK government finances a third of the salary package offered to the British cops now serving the Jamaica Constabulary Force.The money comes from both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and DFID, High Commissioner Mark Waller said.
Waller said the sum included emoluments and fringe benefits. Deputy commissioner of police Mark Shieldsis the first of the Britons to take up an assignment in Jamaica. This year he signed off on a four year contract as crime chief with the Jamaican government.
