Cuban authorities have jailed a senior Communist Party member for 12 years for corruption. This is a rare sanction against high level fraud.
But the action against Juan Carlos Robinson, a member of the party for nine years, has left many analysts puzzled.
Robinson, 49, was jailed for profiting from influence. He was thrown out of the party in April and sentenced to jail in June 16. The hearing was not reported by the Cuban media.
