The United States says it plans to continue its assistance to the Haitian government.
US ambassador Janet Sanderson made the announcement during a short speech to the members of the Haitian American Trade Association in capital Port-au-Prince.
The Provisional Electoral Council is still not able to set a new date for the organization of the local elections. They were initially due to take place on June 18. The financing of these polls is the main concern of the PEC. They reportedly cost thirteen million dollars.
Rene Preval was recently elected President of Haiti in the first democratic polls since controversy hit the Government in February 2004. Former leader Jean Bertrand Aristide was exiled.
