Leader of the Opposition in Guyana Robert Corbin has called on the Caricom Heads who met meeting in St Kitts to convince the government of Guyana to allow a high-powered, fact-finding Caricom team to make an independent assessment" of a number of issues related to the scheduled general elections in Guyana.
Corbin is also urging Commonwealth Secretary General, Don McKinnon to apprise other Commonwealth governments of the situation in Guyana and to urge their support for a peaceful and negotiated solution to the "several crises."
Information Liaison to the President, Robert Persaud rebutted that the Peoples National Congress Reform must stop its bullying tactics against the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). He insisted that the independent electoral body must be allowed to continue with its schedule to deliver a timely and fair election. Persaud complained that Corbin's trip to meet the Caricom Heads in St Kitts and Nevis was another bid by the PNCR to stall and derail the upcoming elections.
