In Jamaica, Portmore residents have threatened to vote out the ruling People's National Party (PNP) if they do not reduce the toll charges on the newly constructed Portmore highway. The residents who are already threatening a two month boycott of the toll road have stipulated that they wil not back down until the fare is reduced from its current $60 to the original $30 toll.
At a recent meeting at the Lions Civic Centre in Portmore, Howard Hamiliton, president of the Portmore Pines Citizens' Association urged residents to make their move by whilst second vice-president of the Portmore Pines Citizens' Association called on the residents to withhold their votes from a government who would have such scant regard for their plight. According to reports, there were no members of Parliament nor district representatives present at the meeting.
