At least two people were injured when a blaze of huge proportions broke out in Cubas Nico Lopez refinery in Havana. According to officials from the nations fire department, the oil from one of the tanks caught fire and the men were injured as they tried to stop the blaze from spreading to other tanks. An official from the Interior Ministry said that the men were immediately taken to a military hospital close by. Unofficial accounts indicate however, that not two, but several persons were injured in the blaze. This is the second such incident to occur over the last ten years at Nico Lopez, which is Cubas largest oil refinery. The plant is situated at Havana Bay, ten miles from the city Centre.
