Trouble continues in Trinidads penal institutions with the latest discovery of a firearm and ammunition amongst prisoners at the Golden Grove facility in Arouca. According to reports a parcel containing the gun, 6 live rounds of ammunition, a knife and two kilos of marijuana was flung over the fence of the prison by an unknown outsider. Following investigations by Prison authorities it was discovered that the illegal items were intended for distribution amongst the prisoners in remand. Authorities found that Convicted prisoners had set up a circulation system inside the prison using the prison food service and the institutions sewer pipes. This seizure comes in light of several petitions by the Golden Grove prison officers about the dangerous conditions at that facility. Earlier this year, prisoners at Golden Grove set fire to the facilities in protest to prison officials carrying out routine search duties.
