The International Cricket Council (ICC) has urged all Test-playing nations to conduct regular drug tests. This statement comes in light of the recent failing of dope tests by Pakistani pacemen, Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif. ICC Chief Executive Malcom Speed said that there would be zero tolerance for drug use in any context. He urged associations to conduct the testing so as to make the cricket game better and stronger. Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are already conducting tests, while the West Indies intend to start their own testing procedures in the near future. Doping tests will be conducted in six matches of the ongoing Champions Trophy tournament in India, with four players in each game chosen randomly to provide samples after play. No players have as yet been tested.
