Son of Prominent physician suspect in vagrant slayings in Suriname

Monday, November 6, 2006

Startling news in Suriname, at least three teens have been arrested as suspects for the recent murder of several homeless men in Suriname. In separate attacks starting from February this year, five homeless men were murdered, while sleeping on the streets in the capital Paramaribo. Two of the victims were shot to death and the others doused with fuel and set aflame. The teen suspects are between the ages of 16 and 19 years old, says Police spokeswoman Maritha Ritfeld-Asontoe, two of whom are enrolled at High school. The suspects have not confessed to the gruesome murders but have admitted to committing violent actions against other vagrants. One of the detainees, is the son of a well-known local physician. Further investigations, are being carried out by the Surinamese authorities
