University students in Barbados, students at the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies, have launched a protest against travelling in Route 3 ZR vans. Sporting T shirts saying "Students have the right, to ride safely, without physical, verbal or sexual harassment, bring the shuttle", the students, under police escort, made their way along the vans' routes.
The action was fuelled by a recent attack on two first year law students from St Lucia and St Vincent. The Guild of Students says, the campus administration has been negligent in its response to the situation and has issued no reply to its proposal for a shuttle system for UWI students along that route. Students are calling for action, and have indicated that this was the fifth such attack on students. In this latest incident, the students were travelling on a Route 3 ZR van en route to Bridgetown when they were attacked and sexually assaulted by women.
